QB Derek Carr (oblique) overcomes the New Orleans Saints’ 26-13 loss

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr suffered an oblique injury in the fourth quarter of Monday’s 26-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

“Not good,” Carr said when asked how he was feeling.

Carr said he plans to have an MRI on Tuesday to evaluate the injury.

Carr left the field with 9:32 to play after throwing an incomplete pass to wide receiver Mason Tipton on fourth down. He appeared to be clutching his waist as the attacker left the field, walked to the injury tent to be examined and then walked to the locker room with the team’s medical staff.

“Until I got injured, I had complete confidence that we could win the game,” Carr said.

Carr said he felt the oblique problem just as he was attempting the throw. He said the problem wasn’t a pain tolerance issue, but rather that he couldn’t execute the throws properly to be effective.

Carr said he asked medical staff if there was anything he could do to return to the game and they said there wasn’t enough time at this point. Jake Haener came into play in his place.

“It wasn’t like dealing with pain. … I just can’t do what I want to do,” Carr said.

Carr said he doesn’t know his status as he looks ahead to Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“I’m going to do everything I can to make sure I’m there on Sunday,” Carr said.

This is the fourth game Carr has left with an injury in his two seasons in New Orleans. He sprained the AC joint in his shoulder against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3 of last season and was concussed twice last year in losses to the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions.
