Veteran broadcaster Doc Harris says goodbye

Longtime broadcaster Doctor Harriswho had a radio career that spanned five decades, has died at the age of 76.

Harris died Saturday morning at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) after what was reported to be minor surgery last month.

Born Gilbert AuchinleckHarris used several on-air nicknames over the years, beginning his broadcasting career as “Gil Harris” in 1966 CKDA And CFMS-FM Victoria. Stop from there CJAT Trail, B.C., CCOM Saskatoon, CKSO Sudbury and CHAM Hamilton followed.

He made his on-air debut in Toronto CFTR as “Doc Holiday” in 1971 before returning to the West Coast and CKLG Vancouver in 1973, where he was first heard as “Gil” and in 1976 as “Doc Harris”. After working at the station for 11 years, Harris took on roles in programming, music direction and morning show management CFMI-FM Vancouver in 1984, followed by CKKS-FM, CFUN, and a nearly decade-long stint as a fill-in CKNW. Harris was last heard from at various parts of the day CISL Vancouver, until 2007, and co-hosted the weekly feature Automotive Intelligence by Dan Gardener.

At the same time, he lent his voice to animated series such as Dragon Ball Z, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, monster ranchers, And John Candy vehicle Camp Candy, as well as video games, including Hulk And Aegis Defender.
