Browns and Steelers both have quarterback dilemmas after another loss

Cincinnati Bengals: Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase question the play and call in overtime

After falling to 1-4, the Cincinnati Bengals’ top two wide receivers felt the play that called for overtime was too conservative during their Week 5 loss to the Ravens. Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase questioned why the Bengals ran off three straight plays on their only possession of overtime.

They had excellent field position, starting at the Baltimore 38-yard line after Germaine Pratt recovered Lamar Jackson’s fumble. However, three straight runs gained three yards, giving Evan McPherson a 53-yard field goal attempt that he missed after a poor layup. Derrick Henry led the way on Baltimore’s next play with a 51-yard run, then Justin Tucker hit the game-winning 24-yard field goal to give the Ravens a 41-38 victory.

Higgins said the Bengals should have been more aggressive with their overtime possessions in a game in which Joe Burrow threw for 392 yards and five touchdown passes.

“I personally think we should have been a little more aggressive on the first or second down just to try to get Evan into better field goal range,” Higgins said, via Ben Baby of ESPN.com. “He will score goals from so far away, I don’t trust him at all. It’s a team effort, we lost as a team. But we could have done a better job of getting him into field goal range. It’s an easier kick.

Chase, who caught 10 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns, agreed with Higgins.

“I felt like we should have tried at least one play to give it to one of our playmakers and get a first down because that’s what we did the whole game,” Chase said.
