Patriots captain Peppers arrested on drug, strangulation and assault charges | NFL

Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested on assault, strangulation and other charges after a disturbance at a home over the weekend, police said Monday.

Police in Braintree, Massachusetts, said they were called to a home early Saturday morning after reports of an altercation between two people. One person was treated at the home by emergency services, police said.

Peppers, 29, appeared in court Monday and pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, assault with a dangerous weapon, strangulation and possession of cocaine. Peppers posted $2,500 bail.

“We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend which police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time,” the Patriots said in a statement Monday.

Peppers, who is New England’s team captain, did not play in his team’s 15-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday because of a shoulder injury.

The Patriots signed Peppers, who is in his third season with the team, to a $24 million contract extension over the summer. Peppers was originally drafted by Cleveland in 2017 and spent two seasons with the Browns before playing three seasons with the New York Giants.
