3 takeaways from Jets vs. Vikings in Week 5

Missed opportunities
The Jets left points on the field.

Quincy Williams had a chance for his first career touchdown after catching a botched pitch from Sam Darnold to RB Ty Chandler. Williams grabbed the ball cleanly at the Jets’ 43-yard line and returned it 15 yards to the Minnesota 42 when he stumbled after Darnold tackled him.

“I just lost my balance,” Williams said. “It is like it is. I should take this home with me. Sam Darnold shouldn’t be able to attack me.”

Three plays later, Vikings LB Andrew Van Ginkel picked off Aaron Rodgers and returned him 63 yards for the score, increasing Minnesota’s lead to 10-0.

“You know, they had a seven-up presentation,” Aaron Rodgers said of the Vikings front. “We got to something we were talking about and I looked at the back or slightly to the left to see if we were hot or not. I completely lost perspective and he made a beautiful move.”

Midway through the second quarter, HC Robert Saleh decided to be aggressive and go for fourth-and-2 on the Vikings’ 26-yard line rather than settle for a field goal. RB Braelon Allen couldn’t convert and Darnold helped extend the home team’s lead on the following drive.

“I feel like we need to be able to get these,” Robert Saleh said. “We didn’t move the ball very well. We tried to be aggressive down there and see if we could score seven points.”

CB Sauce Gardner nearly kept the Vikings out of the end zone when he had an intercepted ball in his hands that he couldn’t deflect. FB CJ Ham struck on the next play.
