Tampa International Airport will suspend operations early Tuesday due to Hurricane Milton

Tampa International Airport will suspend all commercial and cargo operations beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday ahead of Hurricane Milton, with the airport remaining closed to the public until any damage from the storm can be assessed.

The airport and its partners used the time before the lockdown to prepare the airfield and terminals, including securing boarding bridges, ground equipment and all remaining aircraft before the storm arrives. The three other public airports are managed by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Peter O. Knight, Tampa Executive and Plant City Airports will also close during a similar period.

TPA, including the main terminal and airsides, is not open to public use and is not equipped to provide shelter for persons or vehicles. The airport is in Evacuation Zone “A” and does not have personnel available to assist others with supplies or assistance, nor are emergency services able to respond to calls or transport people to or from the airport.

For the same reason, the parking garages will be closed to the public during the shutdown and you are asked not to bring any vehicles to the airport for parking.

Travelers are urged to heed emergency management advisories and pay particular attention to public safety alerts. Milton is currently forecast to bring potentially catastrophic storm surges, strong winds and heavy rain to Tampa Bay and throughout Florida’s Gulf Coast.

The airport expects to reopen following a damage assessment, which will begin as soon as it is safe to do so. TPA will closely coordinate the reopening of the airport with its partners, including the Transportation Security Administration and airlines, based on traffic safety, facility readiness and staffing levels. Changes to dates will be communicated promptly.
