Broncos’ Bo Nix and Sean Payton have heated conversation on the sidelines: ‘Sometimes it’s my love language’

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix and head coach Sean Payton had a heated conversation on the sideline during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

It wasn’t clear what was said, but the rookie starter made his case forcefully to the head coach of the Super Bowl champions in the third quarter. Luckily for the Broncos, the exchange didn’t change the course of the game.

Denver defeated Las Vegas for the first time since 2019, 34-18. Nix was 19 of 27 for 206 yards and two touchdown passes. Josh Reynolds and Jaleel McLaughlin each had Nix’s touchdown catches.

Payton was asked about the conversation with Nix after the game.

“That’s part of the deal. There’s still a little bit of Ferris Bueller in this player that we need to get rid of. I’m talking about Bo,” Payton said. “I love him more than anything and sometimes it’s my love language.”

Nix also talked about the interaction.

“Yeah, I saw the movie,” Nix said. “I think it’s funny. In my opinion, that literally explains the situation. We’re just out there with great competitive intensity and fire. We can have these conversations and go right ahead and score a few more touchdowns. That doesn’t bother us.”

The Broncos outscored the Raiders 21-8 in the second half. Las Vegas had to bench Gardner Minshew for Aidan O’Connell midway through the game. There were three interceptions between both quarterbacks.

Denver cornerback Patrick Surtain II returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown.

“There is no accelerating, he made a good move. He made a really good play,” Payton said. “The significance of the play is that it’s a 10-point play because they’re probably going to at least kick a field goal where it happened.”

“That was a huge game for us. At this point it was suddenly 10:7. This game goes back and forth constantly. If you score on defense, you win 80% of the time and then three turnovers to none. Certainly it was a huge play, at least a 10-point play.
