Jason Garrett criticizes Deshaun Watson in his scathing review of Browns QB

Kevin Stefanski has stated that the Cleveland Browns will not be making a quarterback change after another ugly loss in Week 5 against the Washington Commanders in which Deshaun Watson struggled.

When breaking down the Browns’ quarterback situation upfront Football on Sunday eveningsNBC’s Jason Garrett had a completely different attitude than Stefanski. Garrett didn’t hesitate to suggest that Watson should be substituted in favor of backup Jameis Winston, noting that failure to do so could cause Cleveland’s players to lose faith in their head coach.

“Your most important job as a head coach is to play the right people…You can’t watch the Cleveland Browns and say (Deshaun Watson) gives you the best chance to win. You lose credibility in the locker room if you let other factors come into play,” Garrett said.

“I think right now give Jameis Winston a chance, maybe there’s new energy, maybe there’s a spark in this team… In a few weeks, maybe bring (Watson) back in. “You can’t go down.” “You have no chance of winning,” he added.

Watson completed 15 of 28 pass attempts for 125 yards and a touchdown in the loss. He was sacked seven times and posted a paltry QBR of 8.6. He has caught just five touchdown passes in his first five games this year, as the Browns’ offense has failed to reach the 18-point mark in any game.

Despite the gigantic guaranteed contract Watson plays under, Garrett made it clear that he believes Stefanski needs to prioritize wins over keeping the struggling but highly paid quarterback under center. With a capable replacement on deck in Winston, he is urging the team to consider a move, at least in the short term, to see if he can help turn the season around despite their 1-4 start.
