Vikings defense takes care of Aaron Rodgers, Jets in London

O’Connell has recently spoken about how his aggressive style of play reflects his trust in his players, and on Sunday he said the deep shots were a counter move against a Jets secondary that continued to play tight coverage and block quick throws.

“We live in a world where maybe we can use that against them and get the ball offside,” he said. “We took a few shots and when they are incomplete you often fall into either second or third position. If you take a few pre-snap penalties, it’s going to be tough sledding, one or two plays away from looking different.”

With Rodgers having the ball late in the game, the Vikings were just a play or two away from a loss. Gilmore had the one play that would take them to 5-0 and maintain their perfect record in London.

“It’s easy to say (you know what’s coming), but to go out there and make the play, that’s different, man,” Smith said. “There aren’t many people in the world who can do that. That’s why he’s here.”

After the interception, O’Connell hugged Flores on the sideline. “I just love playing football with him, it’s as simple as that,” O’Connell said.

“I have absolute confidence in our defense,” he added. “That’s why we got Gilly, to take a game away, such tight coverage and make a great catch there, so we’ll give it our all for win number five.”
