SEATTLE – It’s rare for non-division teams in the NFL to meet two seasons in a row, let alone three.

But that’s exactly what’s on the agenda on Sunday afternoon when the New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks face off for the third straight year. Geno Smith’s Seahawks have won both previous meetings, one here and one in prime time last season, when Seattle’s defense completely overwhelmed Daniel Jones and the Giants in prime time.

The Giants’ last win over Seattle came during the 2020 season – the big win of Joe Judge’s tenure as head coach – when Colt McCoy replaced an injured Jones and – in an empty stadium thanks to the pandemic and COVID restrictions – the Big Blue took over Victory resulted in a stunning upset.

The 12s were back at Lumen Field two years ago and any chance of an upset by the Giants was dashed by a pair of muffs from returnee Richie James.

Check back throughout the day for updates:

The connection between Daniel Jones and Darius Slayton is heating up.

Slayton caught a 30-yard touchdown from Jones on a nice throw and the Giants were back in the lead.

The play was initiated by a long strike from Slayton after a play reminiscent of Mario Manningham from Super Bowl XLVI. But Slayton was assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty that signaled a first down, but officials apparently felt the gesture was too close to a shot. Was a 41 yard play, then minus 15 yards for the foul.

Great splash play and Big Blue has the ball back. Tae Banks forced a fumble by DK Metcalf and Tyler Nubin recovered. The Seahawks were within field goal range but coughed it up.

GIANT

Passing: Daniel Jones 14-18, 145 yards, TD

Rushing: Tyrone Tracy 6-48, Jones 9-34, Eric Gray 4-4, Wan’Dale Robinson 1-4

Reception: Theo Johnson 4-43, Gray 3-50, Darius Slayton 3-30, Robinson 3-21, Tracy 1-1

SEAHAWKS

Pass: Geno Smith 9-14, 97

Rushing: Kenneth Walker 2-2

Receiving: Walker 2-21, Zach Charbonnet 2-15, Tyler Lockett 1-28, DK Metcalf 1-14, AJ Barner 1-13, Jaxon Smith-Njigba 1-3, Jake Bobo 1-3

Halftime: Giants 10, Seahawks 10

The Seahawks refused to go into halftime in silence, and thanks to a deep pass from Geno Smith to Tyler Lockett, Jason Myers kicked a 43-yard field goal that tied the game with two seconds left.

Greg Joseph hit a 38-yard field goal to give the Giants the lead in a half that the Giants completely dominated except for the freak goal-line fumble that led to Seattle’s only points.

Giants 7, Seahawks 7, 9:09 left in 2nd quarter

Daniel Jones will have to take a lot of punishment today. He took a beating against the Seahawks last year when he was sacked 11 times. Today’s shot is done by carrying the ball 8,000 times.

But so far it’s working with Jones converting two first downs. He then threw a dart to Wan’Dale Robinson, who turned away from two defenders and scored a 7-yard touchdown that ultimately helped the Giants tie the game.

The Giants dominate this game, but thanks to the mistake at the start it is a tie.

The Giants outscore the Giants themselves in their opening game. Instead of scoring a touchdown of his own, facing a fourth-and-1 and trying to cap an impressive first possession, Eric Gray fumbled the ball into the end zone before crossing the goal line. Seahawks safety Rayshawn Jenkins grabbed the turnover and ran a stunning 101 yards, completely in the opposite direction, for a stunning touchdown and a 7-0 Seattle lead.

GIANT

  • QB Tommy DeVito (3rd emergency QB)
  • WR Malik Nabers
  • OL Jake Kubas
  • RB Devin Singletary
  • CB Tre Hawkins III
  • OLB Boogie Basham
  • S Anthony Johnson

SEAHAWKS

  • C Olu Oluwatimi
  • OLB Boye Mafe
  • OL Sataoa Laumea
  • OL Michael Jerrell
  • DT Byron Murphy II

The Giants will be without Malik Nabers (concussion protocol) and most likely Devin Singletary, who is listed as questionable with a groin injury. That will bring a different offense for Big Blue, as rookie Tyrone Tracy is expected to be used at lead back and second-year pro Jalin Hyatt will be used to get more involved in the passing game.

Defensively, the Giants were encouraged by what they saw in practice from Adoree’ Jackson (calf) and could see his return. Rookie Dru Phillips (calf) was listed as questionable like Jackson, so we’ll see if he can be back as well.

We still expect the Giants to have Tae Banks and Cor’Dale Flott on the perimeter, while Nick McCloud is in the slot and Isaiah Simmons works sub packages.

Former Giants Leonard Williams (ribs) and Julian Love (bruised quad) are expected to play for the Seahawks.

Prediction: NY Giants vs. Seahawks

The choice: Seahawks 27, Giants 17

Here’s why: The Giants need to win one of these games that many expect them to lose to make up for the failure to shut out the Commanders and Cowboys. Can they put together a perfect game on both sides of the ball while coming up with a takeaway or two to steal this game? It is possible. But without Malik Nabers and the sputtering running game, compounded by the questionable status of Devin Singletary (groin), Big Blue has a really tough time. The Seahawks gave up 42 points on Monday night and Lions QB Jared Goff was perfect (18 of 18 passes), yet it’s unrealistic to expect Jones and the Giants to repeat that performance, especially with former Giants DL Leonard Williams expected ( ribs). oversaw the return of a number of the Seahawks’ defensive players from injury.
