Jacoby Brissett didn’t mince his words after the Patriots’ loss to the Dolphins

As the losses continue to mount, so does frustration with the New England Patriots’ locker room. Not even the team’s typically balanced starting quarterback is immune to this, as became clear after Sunday’s home loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Speaking to the media after the 15-10 defeat, Jacoby Brissett didn’t mince his words when discussing his team’s performance.

“It was frustrating. Honestly, nothing was good,” Brissett said.

“We just have to play better. We’re getting to the point where we just have to play better. Punishments in the wrong situations, in bad situations – we’re not good enough to fight back. To try and get points we have to go forward. We need to change this and fix it.”

The Patriots offense finished the game against Miami with 299 net yards on 55 plays, but was unable to string together consistent positive plays. Aside from a 33-yard touchdown run by Rhamondre Stevenson and a few chunk plays in the fourth quarter, it was once again arduous work for the unit to move the ball down the field.

Getting flagged eight times didn’t make the Patriots’ job any easier on that side of the ball, either. As Brissett said, the group is simply not good enough to overcome self-inflicted wounds like this.

“We do plays. We’re just shooting ourselves in the foot. We take one step forward and then 20 steps back,” he said. “We can’t do that. Until we get to that point, we will continue to be frustrated about the little things. …

“You have to go out there, play with good fundamentals and techniques and do the little things right. This league is already so difficult. The margin for error is so small, and if we can’t do that because we’re not focused and because there’s a lack of things we all have control over, then we’re not good enough to do it.”

Brissett finished the game 18-for-34 for 160 yards. His final completion was a 25-yard pass to tight end Hunter Henry down the field, running out the clock and leaving New England just 11 yards shy of a game-winning touchdown.

“We have to play better,” the 31-year-old continued. “There is no magic thing we have to do. We just have to play better. We have to improve our performance. We have to play better with good fundamentals. We have to do all the little things better. If we watch this movie again, it’s not about this person, that person, this play, that play. We just have to play better as a unit.”
