Last month, Aaron Rodgers stressed that he and his New York Jets teammates need to stay grounded in the face of success on the field. Turns out that might not be a big problem.

The Jets fell to 2-3 this season with a 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday in London.

Rodgers had a rough day, finishing the game with 29 of 54 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

One of those picks went for six points when Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel intercepted a pass in the first quarter and returned it 63 yards for a touchdown.

The last turnover sealed the victory for the Vikings. On a 3rd-and-10 at the Vikings’ 26-yard line in the final minute, Rodgers and wide receiver Mike Williams were not on the same page and resulted in an interception by Minnesota cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Once again, New York’s offense was unable to capitalize on the strong performance of its defense. The Jets held the Vikings to 253 yards rushing and did not allow the Minnesota offense to reach the end zone.

The blame for the team’s start goes beyond Rodgers. However, the franchise acquired the four-time MVP hoping he would be the missing piece, and he simply doesn’t look like a quarterback who can take New York to the promised land.

Sam Darnold performed even worse than Rodgers in terms of overall performance. He threw for 179 yards and one interception on 31 attempts. Still, it will feel good for the Vikings quarterback to give his old team a leg up.

One concern for Minnesota is that the Darnold renaissance may be over because this is the player fans have seen for much of his career, not the one who started 2024 so strongly.

It’s still too early to say that the Jets have a must-win game against the Buffalo Bills in Week 6, but the odds are pretty close. If New York goes bankrupt, the fear of fans in the Big Apple will reach its peak.

The Vikings can at least regroup before facing a division opponent. Minnesota has next week off and hosts the Detroit Lions in Week 7. Head coach Kevin O’Connell and his staff may spend much of their free time evaluating Darnold and figuring out how he can re-emphasize his strengths.
