What to know about the 2024 Southington Apple Harvest Festival – NBC Connecticut

Fall is here and so are the apples and the Southington Apple Harvest Festival begins Friday.

The six-day event will take place over two weekends, October 4-6 and October 11-13, on and around the Southington Town Green.

The festival will take place on Friday, October 4th and 11th from 5pm to 8pm; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 5 and 12; 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6th and 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13th.

The craft exhibition will take place on Saturday, October 12th, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, October 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event can attract more than 100,000 people, so expect crowds, parking restrictions and road closures.

Parking restrictions

From Friday, October 4th to Sunday, October 6th and from Friday, October 11th to Sunday, October 13th, “No Parking” signs will be posted on both sides of these streets:

  • Academy Lane
  • Academy Street
  • Berlin Avenue, from Main Street to Highwood Avenue
  • Middle Street
  • Central place
  • Center Court
  • Chestnut Street
  • Columbus Ave
  • Eden Ave
  • Main Street
  • Hobart Street
  • Freedom Street
  • Merrell Ave
  • Mill Street, from North Main Street to Water Street
  • North Liberty Street
  • North Main Street, from Center Street to Mill Street
  • Oak Street
  • Vermont Ave
  • Vermont Terrace
  • West Center Street, from Summer Street to Howard Avenue
  • Woodruff Street, from Berlin Avenue to Pleasant Street

On Sunday, October 6th (with a rain date of October 13th), the following streets will be marked as “No Parking” for the Apple Festival parade:

  • Beecher Street
  • Bristol Street
  • Chestnut Street
  • Church Street
  • Cowles Ave
  • Eden Place
  • Elm Street
  • Knowles Ave
  • Main Street
  • Matthews Street
  • Prospect Street, from West Street to Summer Street
  • South Center Street
  • Speechley Ave
  • Summer street
  • Western Main Street
  • waterway
  • Access to Cowles Avenue, Prospect Street, Summer Street and Elm Street will be closed at 11 a.m. on parade day.

Special parking restrictions will apply on the streets listed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on parade day.

Violators will be subject to a $35 fine and/or the vehicle will have to be towed.

Fireworks

The fireworks will be set off from the dog park on Mill Street on Saturday, October 5th. The rain date is Saturday, October 12th.

The section of Mill Street between North Main Street (Route 10) and Water Street will be closed to create a safety zone starting at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 5, and reopening at 11:00 p.m. the same day Traffic will be rerouted closing Mill Street.

The dog park will be closed to the public starting Saturday, October 5th at 12 p.m. and will reopen on Sunday, October 6th at 12 p.m.

These closures will be in effect from Saturday, October 12th through Sunday, October 13th, subject to the rain date being implemented.

Information about the parade

During parade and festival times, northbound and southbound traffic will be detoured on Route 10.

On parade day, northbound traffic on Route 10 will be detoured onto Meriden Avenue and southbound traffic will be detoured onto Hobart Street. During normal festival hours, northbound traffic on Route 10 will be detoured onto Berlin Avenue and southbound traffic on Route 10 will be detoured onto High Street.

One of the big attractions every year is the apple donut stand.

There will be live music and apple slice and apple pie eating contests.
