Shocking moment: Woman finds ‘craziest’ item in thrift store, 13 years after she sold it

A woman has shared footage of the shocking moment she found her exact same prom dress in a thrift store – 13 years after she sold it.

Jillea Godin often takes TikTok to showcase the stunning costumes she creates.

The Canadian artist shares her creations with her over 490,000 followers and is known as the “crazy costume lady” of social media because of her love of cosplay.

The 30-year-old recently used the video-sharing platform to share a sentimental message with her fans: She revealed that while shopping at a thrift store, she found the same dress she wore to her high school dance.

In a viral video that has been viewed 1.1 million times so far, Jillea showed the moment she found the exact blue dress she wore to prom and admitted that the dress – which she once purchased for a whopping $900 – now costs $24.99.

She talked about the moment when she and her mother were surprised by the coincidence.

Jillea captioned the clip: “It’s not weird that it’s in the thrift store. But what is weird is that I’m the person who found it a week after moving back east over a decade later??! (sic)”

In the clip, she captured herself seeing her blue and white leopard print dress hanging on a rack in the thrift store.

“Guys, something totally crazy just happened to me at the thrift store,” she said.

“It was right after I moved back home – after living in Toronto for 12 years. I found my real prom dress.”

“Fourteen years ago, I bought this prom dress in Miami and I was living in New Brunswick at the time. This is my exact prom dress – same size, same brand, and it’s been altered.”

Jillea explained that the dress was originally a size 6, but she had it sized down to a size 2.

“I’m 30 years old and I just found it at Value Village,” she said before sharing snaps of herself in the dress at her high school prom.

She explained that she sold the unique dress on Facebook Marketplace after dancing in it all night long.

Now, 14 years later, Jillea found the dress “by some force majeure” and decided to buy it again.

She admitted that since she had always made costumes, she didn’t know whether to keep the dress or redesign it.

“Welcome home, baby,” she said as she held the dress in her hands while paying.

When she got home, Jillea tried on the dress and found that it still fit like a glove.

At the end of the clip, she spun around with a big grin on her face.

Online, people flooded the comments section expressing their dismay at the amazing reunion.

One person said: “I love that it came back to you!!”

Someone else wrote: “The fact that it still fits perfectly is an excuse.”

Another person commented: “The ultimate goodwill find.”

“Please keep it,” added a fourth user.

Speaking to Newsweek, Jillea revealed that she did not expect so many people to see her video – adding that she considered the chance discovery to be “fate”.

She told the outlet, “I made the video because I thought people probably wouldn’t care or believe me or think I staged it, but to my surprise, everyone reacted the same way I did.”

“It was fate. I saw it as a sign that I should move back home after all this time.”

Now she revealed that she wants to upgrade the dress and turn it into a costume that she can wear again and again, adding that finding her ball gown again made her “emotional”.
