“Shame on them,” shouts Walmart customer after retailer overcharges 9 – and customers urge others to “be careful”

A customer has sued Walmart for an alleged overpayment that resulted in him paying hundreds of dollars more for merchandise.

They claimed that the pricing error occurred during a grocery shopping trip in August and that they only realized what had happened after paying.

The customer, Dave, urged other Walmart customers to avoid a particular New Jersey store after the incident.

“Warning to Walmart customers on Route 70 and Route 88, Brick, New Jersey,” Dave wrote in a post on Facebook.

“I was just shopping there and my purchase totaled $209.”

Dave claimed that the total amount of $209 was significantly more than he should have been charged for the goods purchased, but he assumed the amount was correct and paid the full amount before going home.

“My girlfriend said that seemed like a lot for what I bought,” he continued.

“When she got home, she checked the bill. My total was $99.76.”

If the adjusted total is correct, Dave was overcharged by over $109.

“Be careful, buyer,” he warned.

STAY ALERT

Dave did not provide any receipt in his post to confirm the error and it is unclear why an additional $109 was added to the bill.

He probably took the receipt to Walmart customer service and received a refund for his inconvenience.

Other buyers were angry about Dave’s situation.

“Shame on her,” someone commented on his post.

“Check your receipt carefully at the checkout,” wrote another.

Dave is not alone, as several Walmart customers have reported similar problems with overcharges this summer.

What to do if you have been overcharged?

If you have overpaid a merchant, there are several ways to get your money back.

If you discover that you have been charged more than the advertised or stated price, report it to a co-worker or supervisor.

Be sure to keep your receipt to prove the price difference.

As a buyer, you are entitled to the lowest price offered, advertised or stated by the store.

If you are charged more than the advertised, stated or quoted price, report it to the seller immediately. If the seller cannot help you, speak to the manager.

Stores must honor a published price even if that price has expired.

You can also dispute the charges with your bank if you notice anything suspicious on your bank statement.

AGAIN AND AGAIN

Another customer, Anna, claimed that her grandmother had at least 13 charges added totaling an additional $70 when paying at a self-checkout kiosk at the local store.

The “mysteriously added” items included several “watermelons” for $4.68 each and a 12-pack of Monster energy drinks for $19.98.

Anna’s grandmother was later compensated for the error, but allegedly received “no explanation” as to how the purchases got there.

Others claimed they had overpaid even more.

A Walmart customer recently claimed he paid $121 for a $5 item during a grocery shopping trip.

Earlier this summer, another customer claimed he was charged more than double the amount he should have paid at the retailer because of the weight of an item.
