GameCenter Finals: Augustana 4, UND 1 (Exhibition) – Grand Forks Herald

GRAND FORKS – Brett Meerman scored two goals to lead Augustana to a 4-1 exhibition win over UND on Saturday at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Nace Langus and Quinn Rudrud also scored for Augustana. Cameron Berg scored UND’s only third-period goal on the power play.

First star: Brett Meerman, AU, 2 goals.
Second star: Josh Kotai, AU, 15/15 saves
Third star: Luke Mobley, AU, 1 assist.

Augustana 1, AND 0 — Brett Meerman (Will Svenddal, Simon Falk) 2:20. The Vikings get on the field early as Svenddal fires a shot from the left point into the net. UND goalie TJ Semptimphelter stops the shot, but the rebound is sent to the top of the goal crease where Meerman is unmarked.

Augustana 2, AND 0 — Nace Langus (Tyler Hennen) 10:42. Hennen, from Hallock, Minnesota, rushes past UND defenseman Andrew Strathmann and puts a puck into the net. There is a scramble that Semptimphelter cannot cover. Langus shoots the ball to make it 2-0.

Augustana 3, AND 0 — Quinn Rudrud (Payton Matsui, Colton Friesen) 5:05 p.m. Semptimphelter tries to block Matsui’s attempt from the circle to the corner, but the ball goes through to the top of the goal area where Rudrud taps it in.

Augustana 4, AND 0 — Brett Meerman (Luke Mobley, Payton Matsui) 3:41 (pp). The Vikings capitalized on their second power play opportunity at the net when Meerman caught the puck on the side of the net and slid it past Kaleb Johnson on the short side. Johnson, who came into the game to start the third period, thought he had covered the post on the play.

Augustana 4, AND 1 — Cameron Berg (Jake Livanavage, Owen McLaughlin) 9:41 (pp). UND finally gets on the field when Berg fires a shot from the right circle past Vikings goaltender Christian Manz on the short side.
