Updates from Jack Tuttle and Jadyn Davis

Michigan’s quarterbacks have yet to get the offense going this year Davis WarrenNow Alex Orji. Jack Tuttle threw the ball so well this summer that some on the program believed he was “the one.” Setbacks from offseason surgery have hampered his progress, and while he is no longer on the questionable list on Saturdays, he still doesn’t appear ready to play.

We asked Michigan’s offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell whether Tuttle was at 100 percent and how many repetitions he managed in training.

“I won’t give away everything about injuries, but Jack is progressing very, very well and he’s getting a few reps here and there,” Campbell said.

A few days ago, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said that Orji got 60 to 70 percent of the reps while Warren got the majority of the others. Jayden Denegal And Jadyn Davis have done a lot of work on the scouting team and will likely continue to do so.

Still, there is a portion of the fan base that wants to see what Davis can do in preparation given his accolades. They won’t rush him, Campbell said, echoing what Moore said earlier this year.

“As far as an option for this season, we don’t know how this season will turn out, but we continue to develop him every day,” Campbell said. “He gets reps just like the other guys and he needs to continue to develop.

“These days, with social media and everything, everyone loves the instant gratification of a rookie coming in and playing. I think (Minnesota Vikings coach) Kevin O’Connell said it best, right? “Organizations fail because of young quarterbacks…not young quarterbacks who fail. “You have to make sure he develops properly and is ready for the situation.”

He’s confident Davis will be ready to be Michigan’s quarterback when it’s his time.

“He will have a bright future at the University of Michigan,” Campbell said. “Whether this is as fast as it is perceived by the outside media or as expected, it is not our job to make a hasty decision based on that. We’re going to put him in a situation where he’s ready to play.”
