PHILADELPHIA – This should be a lot of fun.

The New York Mets, fresh off their stunning win in Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series, are ready to take on a familiar foe, the Philadelphia Phillies, in the NL Division Series on Saturday at Citizens Bank Park at 4:08 p.m.

The first surprising news came a little over 24 hours before first pitch, when Carlos Mendoza announced that Kodai Senga would be the team’s starter in Game 1 against the Phillies. Zack Wheeler will take the ball for the Phillies in Game 1 of the playoffs after receiving a first-round bye as the No. 2 pick in the National League.

With an exciting matchup coming up, here are the updates, news and analysis on the opening game of the NLDS between the Mets and Phillies:

Kodai Senga went for a home run on the first pitch of the return

Kyle Schwarber set the major league record for most leadoff home runs in a season in 2024. The Phillies’ designated hitter wasted no time in carrying that success into the playoffs.

In his first attempt at bat after a calf strain, Kodai Senga Schwarber delivered a 425-foot solo home run, giving the Phillies a 1-0 lead.

On the other hand, Wheeler was used early, going 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in the first inning and all 11 of his pitches were for strikeouts.
