The White House confirms that President Biden and the First Lady will visit South Bend today

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The White House confirms President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will visit South Bend today.

According to a schedule from the White House press office, the president and first lady will head to South Bend from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland shortly before 1 p.m. No estimated time of arrival in South Bend was provided.

According to the schedule, the Bidens will leave South Bend and return to Maryland shortly before 5:30 p.m. No further details about her visit to Michigan were disclosed.

Earlier this week, multiple sources told WNDU 16 News Now that law enforcement officials across St. Joseph County were preparing for a possible visit by the president this weekend.

Some of these sources told us that it was a wedding or reception and that it did not appear to be a political event.

A VIP Movement Alert has been issued in South Bend for today, according to a release from the FAA.

Another source told us a plane landed at South Bend International Airport just after noon on Thursday, which is what typically happens before a presidential visit.
