The Apple Festival in Southington is ready for another fun run

SOUTHINGTON, CT – Most trade shows have concluded and even the Big E in Springfield, Massachusetts has run its course this year.

But that doesn’t mean the end of the seasonal fun. In fact, it’s just getting started in Southington.

Because on Friday, October 4th, the 2024 Southington Apple Harvest Festival will transform the city’s beloved green space (75 Main St.) into a cheerful mecca for food, crafts, games and rides… all paying homage to the beloved fall Fruit.

As always, the celebrations this year will span two weekends – Friday, October 4th to Sunday, October 6th and Friday, October 11th to Sunday, October 13th.

It is considered one of the oldest and best attended festivals in New England, attracting more than 100,000 people over the course of the event.

“The festival is one of Connecticut’s premier tourist events, held during the peak of New England’s beautiful fall foliage,” wrote the city of Southington, which organizes the event through a special committee.

“Visitors will enjoy a packed program of events, entertainment, activities, specialty foods, crafts and fun for all ages.”

The parade will give people one last chance to publicly honor retired Southington Town Manager Mark Sciota, the parade’s grand marshal in 2024.

Impact on traffic

But with massive community events comes traffic disruptions, with the Southington Police Department in control of the situation.

SPD issued a bulletin this week about road closures, parking and other issues people driving into or through the area need to know.

At various times during the event, several streets in the city green area will be closed and parking will be restricted.

These restrictions will be particularly felt at two of the festival’s largest events, the Southington Apple Harvest Festival Parade on Sunday, October 6th, and the fireworks display on Saturday evening, August 5th.
