“Princess Diaries 3” in the works at Disney with director Adele Lim

The Princess Diaries 3 has been in development since 2022, and last year in an interview with V Magazine, Hathaway shared her excitement about the long-awaited film’s progress. “We’re in a good place,” Hathaway teased. “There is nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place.”

Plot details have not been confirmed, but the threequel is expected to continue the story of 2001’s “The Princess Diaries” and its 2004 sequel “Royal Engagement” rather than reboot the series.

Lim is best known as the writer of the megahit “Crazy Rich Asians,” which grossed $174 million domestically for Warner Bros. (on a $30 million budget), becoming one of the most profitable romantic comedies of all time and Bild secured nominations for Best Comedy at the Golden Globes, the Producers Guild Awards and won the Critics Choice Award. After “Crazy Rich Asians,” she wrote Disney’s “Raya and the Last Dragon,” which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. In 2023, Lim made her directorial debut with the Lionsgate film Joy Ride, starring Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Sabrina Wu and Stephanie Hsu. She also produced the film alongside Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg of Point Gray Pictures.

Lim, a Malaysian native of Chinese descent, began her career in television as a writer and producer on shows such as “One Tree Hill” and “Lethal Weapon” and as co-showrunner of “Starcrossed” on the CW. In 2023, she founded the production company 100 Tigers with Cucukov (a former Walden Media executive whose film credits include the Netflix series “The Baby-Sitters Club” and “Manhunt”) with the aim of “promoting and to strengthen”. Artists and projects that share our passion for female-focused, cross-cultural stories with global appeal and a glossy touch.” 100 Tigers has multiple projects in development at various studios, including Amazon/MGM, HBO Max and ABC.
