Lakers head coach JJ Redick told reporters that James would play sometime this weekend. The Lakers’ second preseason game takes place on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns.

James is entering his 22nd season in the NBA and his seventh with the Lakers. He signed a two-year deal to return to Los Angeles in the 2024 NBA offseason and the 40-year-old has a lot to look forward to.

Redick is entering his first season as a head coach and had a podcast with James before he was hired by the Lakers. Additionally, James will play alongside his son Bronny and the two will be the first father-son duo in NBA history.

The Lakers are also a competitive team, posting a 47-35 record in the 2023-24 season before falling to the Denver Nuggets in five games in the first round of the playoffs, a step backwards after losing in the 2022-24 season. 23 had reached the Western Conference finals.

As James strives to secure another NBA title before retiring, it is important to maintain his peak physical condition and missing a preseason match will contribute to his longevity.
