Garth Brooks launched a pre-emptive strike against his makeup artist rape accuser, claiming she blackmailed him for money

Garth Brooks filed a preemptive lawsuit against his sexual assault accuser, claiming he was the victim, DailyMail.com can reveal.

The 62-year-old country star claimed she was an extortionist who threatened to ruin his reputation if she didn’t get a multimillion-dollar salary, his lawsuit says.

Brooks’ lawsuit, obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com, was filed anonymously in federal court in Mississippi last month after she received a “letter of demand” from her attorney.

At that point, he was aware that his former makeup artist, known only as Jane Roe, was preparing to file her own civil lawsuit in California.

Brooks’ complaint puts a very different spin on the incidents alleged in Thursday’s filing, in which he was accused of assault, sexual assault and gender-based violence.

Roe insisted that she was subjected to a sexually hostile work environment on a work trip to Los Angeles in 2019 and was ultimately raped by Brooks.

But the singer denied such acts and claimed that her complaint was a money grab stemming from financial difficulties that he was supposed to resolve.

Rather than fleeing an abusive employer, Brooks claimed Roe only sued him after he refused to give her a paying job with medical benefits.

According to Brooks, she did so after numerous threats to sue unless he paid her “millions of dollars not to file the lawsuit.”

DailyMail.com has discovered that Brooks is the person behind the lawsuit in Mississippi after Roe’s lawyers revealed that the megastar had filed a preemptive lawsuit in the state.

Roe worked for Brooks as an independent contractor for about 15 years before moving from Tennessee to Mississippi in May 2020.

Brooks, who filed as “John Doe,” claimed, “Shortly after moving to Mississippi, Defendant apparently encountered financial difficulties and asked Plaintiff for financial assistance.”

“The plaintiff complied with the demand out of loyalty, friendship and a desire to improve the defendant’s condition.”

“But defendants’ demands for financial support only increased, and defendant eventually demanded paid employment and medical benefits from plaintiff.”

Brooks identified himself as “John Doe” and expressed in the court filing his need for anonymity, hoping the matter would never become public if the woman did not move forward

Brooks refused, claiming she responded with false and outrageous claims of sexual misconduct that she claimed happened years ago.

An attorney working for Roe sent Brooks a “letter of demand” on July 17 alleging a litany of sexual misconduct…ranging from allegations of sexual grooming, creating a sexually hostile work environment, unwanted sexual touching and sexual assault.

In his lawsuit, Brooks claimed Roe also accused her of believing he was “planning to hire someone to murder her.” This allegation was not addressed in Roe’s own lawsuit.

Brooks claimed the demand letter was the first he had heard of the allegations against him.

He stated that the letter threatened to “publicly file” a civil lawsuit – a draft of which was attached – unless he “agreed to pay … millions of dollars.”

“The letter referred to various celebrity sexual misconduct lawsuits in which jury awards totaled millions of dollars,” his lawsuit states.

In a follow-up letter dated August 23, 2024, Roe again offered to refrain from publicly filing her false and defamatory lawsuit…in exchange for a multimillion-dollar payment.

Brooks claimed, “She threatened that if (Brooks) did not comply with this demand, he would face exposure to many millions of dollars ‘based on (his) net worth.'”

As the Recording Industry Association of America’s top solo artist in history, having sold nearly 150 million albums, the “Friends in Low Places” singer has an estimated net worth between $300 million and $350 million.

At one point he was the highest-paid celebrity in the world. Between June 2017 and June 2018, he earned $45 million. During the same period in 2019 – the year Roe accused him of raping her – he earned $25 million.

Brooks’ country singer Trisha Yearwood’s own fortune puts their net worth as a couple at around $400 million.

Yearwood, 60, and Brooks have been married for 21 years and have homes in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as Nashville, Tennessee and Malibu, California.

Brooks broke his silence Thursday night, just hours after forcefully denying rape and assault allegations made by the makeup artist, whom he has known for more than 20 years.

Brooks shared an update on Instagram after his show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, writing to fans that he “really needed this.”

He uploaded a photo of the huge crowd cheering him on and wrote: “If there was ever a night I really needed this, TONIGHT was that night!” “Thank you for my life!!!! All the best, g.”

Roe’s legal team, for its part, accused Brooks of trying to “manipulate” the legal system with last month’s preemptive strike.

“With a draft of Ms. Roe’s California sexual assault complaint in hand, Mr. Doe ran to this courthouse in an apparent attempt to further control and victimize his sexual assault victim,” her response to his federally filed lawsuit, the DailyMail read .com had viewed, read.

They claimed he did this while feigning interest in settlement talks to avoid the lawsuit they had yet to file.

In that lawsuit, which DailyMail.com can reveal new details about, Roe made multiple allegations of assault and sexual impropriety by Brooks.

She claimed he “took advantage” of the financial hardship she shared with him in 2019 and “used the opportunity to subject (her) to a side of Brooks that he is keeping from the public.”

According to Roe, “This site believes that it has a right to sexual satisfaction when it wants it and that using a female employee to do so is fair game.”

Roe accused Brooks of once emerging naked from the shower “with an erection,” which he forced to touch by grabbing her hand and telling her that he had dreamed of that moment and wanted her to perform a sex act on him executed.

She claimed things escalated in May 2019 when he asked her to travel with him to Los Angeles for a Grammy tribute to Sam Moore. She claimed he booked a one-bedroom hotel suite and refused to give her her own room.

In her suite, she claimed that she – less than 5 feet tall and weighing 100 pounds – was the victim of a brutal rape by Brooks, who, at 6 feet tall and weighing nearly 300 pounds, easily physically dominated her could.

She also claimed he sent her explicit text messages and encouraged her to sext him; that he bragged about “fucking multiple women in every corner of a hotel room”, “white, black, brown or whatever… on every surface”.

Brooks also repeatedly talked about having a threesome with Yearwood and Roe, repeatedly exposed himself to her and groped her body, including her breasts, the lawsuit says.

Notably, Roe believed that Yearwood “overheard his suggestion of a threesome on at least one occasion” and that his wife was present for a particularly salacious conversation in which Brooks talked about inventing a shampoo bottle that could double as a dildo.
