Things haven’t been going smoothly since Brittany Cartwright first filed for divorce from Jax Taylor in August. But when it comes to the more contentious parts of the split – custody arrangements, division of their shared property and the rights to Mamaw’s Beer Cheese – you’d think the two reality stars would prefer to leave it to the lawyers. Apparently that’s not the case with Taylor. Per People, The valley Castmate submitted a handwritten response to his estranged wife’s divorce petition without seeking legal help. As a result, the 45-year-old reportedly made several errors in the paperwork, including stating that he and Cartwright were never legally married. Oops!

“We are legally married,” Cartwright commented to an E! News Instagram post on this topic on Thursday. “I suspect the paperwork is difficult for some people. 🫣.” Lance Bass, the couple’s officiant at their Kentucky castle wedding in 2019, also agreed: “I can confirm that. Pastor Lance signed the papers. 🤷🏼‍♂️.”

According to E! News, which also obtained a copy of the filing, Taylor checked a box certifying that he and Cartwright are married, then checked a second box that read, “The defendant contends that the parties were never lawfully married or.” He then gave the estranged couple’s separation date as September 26th – eight months after the January 24th that Cartwright had stated in her own filing (Cartwright announced their separation in February). Taylor also granted Cartwright sole custody of her 3-year-old son, Cruz, and left a box requesting visitation time with the child unchecked. He then checked a box labeled “Other” in the “Child Support” section, which led to confusion about the agreement.

When reached for a comment by People On Wednesday, Taylor’s representative claimed that the filing errors were already being corrected. “Jax and Brittany have long since resolved all matters related to custody of Cruz and will continue to work together privately for the benefit of their son, which remains their primary concern,” a spokesperson wrote in a statement to the outlet. “While Jax made errors in completing forms that are typically made by trained legal professionals, these errors will be promptly corrected.”

Suffice it to say, Jax Taylor is not the No. 1 lawyer in the group.
