Who will the Mets play in the NLDS? Matchups, Schedule and How to Watch – NBC New York

OMG!

Until their last two outs and a two-run deficit entering the top of the ninth inning, the New York Mets’ hopes of advancing to the National League Division Series and continuing their improbable season seemed bleak.

Enter Pete Alonso.

With runners on first and third, the “Polar Bear” drove a 3-1 pitch over the right field wall to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. They added an insurance run later in the inning and defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2, clinching the best-of-three wild-card series and advancing to the NLDS.

The Mets join the San Diego Padres, Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers as the clubs emerging from the opening round of the playoffs. The Brewers, meanwhile, are exiting the postseason early, as are the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros.

So who do the Mets play next? It is a familiar enemy.

Waiting for the Amazins are the Philadelphia Phillies, who won the NL East and secured number 2 in the National League.

The Division Series showcases the top two teams from each league in the postseason. Joining the Phillies are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who finished the regular season with the best record in baseball. They will also face a division rival, the Padres.

In the American League, the youth division is led by the New York Yankees, the AL’s top seed, who will play the Royals. The No. 2 Cleveland Guardians will face the Tigers.
