Joel Klatt feels “better in Georgia” than Alabama after wild fifth week

Joel Klatt knows everything that happened Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. In fact, the FOX analyst surprisingly gave Alabama the No. 1 spot in his personal poll after the Crimson Tide beat Georgia in thrilling fashion.

However, the analyst thinks the discussion about which team feels better is getting “a little more interesting” given how the game played out. After a 28-0 lead and a 30-7 lead by halftime, Alabama was silent as Georgia took the lead in the fourth quarter.

Ryan Williams and Jalen Milroe ultimately saved the day for Alabama, but that doesn’t change Klatt’s opinion. He has a better feel for Kirby Smart and Georgia than he does for Kalen DeBoer’s team moving forward.

“To me, quite honestly, that’s a pretty obvious conclusion… And that is that I feel better about Georgia than I do about Alabama based on this game. I get it, Alabama won, which is why I rewarded them with the top spot in my rankings,” Klatt said. “But I also believe in this sport, and honestly, in life it usually goes to the top.”

Klatt went on to say that he felt like the longer the game went on, the more Georgia really seemed to be the better team. It’s an assessment that should rightly anger Alabama fans, but Klatt isn’t changing his mind.

“As time goes on you see that one team starts to become a better team or shows that they are the better team than the other. I think that started in the second half,” explained Klatt. “If you’re an Alabama fan, you’re going to be outraged that I hold that opinion, and you deserve to feel that way because you won the football game…What I saw in the second half was, that the Georgia team started to fall apart because of the weakness that Alabama had.”
