Don Johnson attributes his youthful age of 74 to his good fortune: “A bad marriage ages you”

Don Johnson has a simple secret for staying handsome and energetic at 74.

“Get married right!” He told People magazine, adding, “A bad marriage ages you.”

The “Miami Vice” star has been married to his wife Kelley Phleger since 1999. The couple has three children together: Atherton Grace, Jasper and Deacon.

In another interview with People earlier this month, Johnson said the key to his 25-year marriage to Phleger was simple.

DON JOHNSON SAYS THREE THINGS ARE THE “KEY” TO HIS LONG-LASTING MARRIAGE

“Oh, we’re just so in tune with each other that there’s an unspoken trust and kindness and respect. And those are the keys,” he told the outlet.

In an interview with Parade last year, Johnson called her “an amazing woman.”

“Obviously she’s a saint. I was dating Bob Dylan once and was having relationship problems, and Bob looked up at me and said, ‘Well, love is about kindness, trust and respect, isn’t it?’ “And that’s the embodiment of Kelley,” Johnson said of what makes Phleger perfect for him. “It’s kindness, trust and respect, and we have that with each other. We are lovers and friends and it’s fun. She’s a great woman.”

He is also the father of a son from his relationship with Patti D’Arbanville, from Jesse Wayne Johnson, and a daughter Dakota Johnson from his marriage to Melanie Griffith.

Johnson and Griffith married in 1976 when she was 18, having first met at 14. They divorced in November of the same year.

They married again in 1989 and stayed together until 1996. Johnson also adopted Griffith’s son from her relationship with actor Steven Bauer, Alexander Bauer, according to People.

Fox News Digital reached out to Griffith representatives for comment on Johnson’s opinion of “a bad marriage.”

Being a father is another of Johnson’s secrets when it comes to looking and feeling young.

“You have to exercise, and exercise a lot,” he told the outlet. “How do you think I had six children?” and jokingly added, “At least I know that!”

Putting his youthful energy to work, Johnson is headlining two projects: “Rebel Ridge” on Netflix and the new Hulu series “Doctor Odyssey.”

Earlier this month, Johnson reflected on the ups and downs of fame during his career success on “Miami Vice.”

“For a long time I couldn’t go anywhere,” he told People.

He continued: “I had to isolate myself. They (women) know where you are. We had 24/7 security.”

The intense fan base reminded him of what Elvis Presley must have gone through at the height of his fame.

“One day I was thinking about Elvis and thought, ‘Isn’t that the way Elvis lived and died?’ Not that I’m comparing myself to Elvis, but in terms of the fact that he can’t have a private life. So I learned to deal with it and vowed not to let it trap me,” Johnson said.
