Commuters in Virginia will experience patchy fog this morning, particularly near the coast. Conditions are expected to improve by 9am as skies gradually clear and become partly sunny. Temperatures will climb into the high 70s by the afternoon, making for unseasonably warm conditions for early October.

According to the US National Weather Service in Wakefield, the coastal regions around the Chesapeake Bay are under a flood warning today. Areas such as Norfolk and Accomac are particularly vulnerable to flooding and residents should keep up to date with local advisories. This risk, compounded by rising tides, could impact low-lying roads near U.S. Route 13.

Looking ahead, cooler, fall-like conditions will sweep across the region by the middle of next week as a cold front moves in. However, residents can expect clear skies and temperatures in the 70s this weekend. Sunny weather is forecast for Saturday and Sunday, making it ideal for outdoor activities throughout the region, from Richmond to Emporia.

Highs will reach 74 degrees on Monday, but temperatures will drop sharply through Tuesday, falling as low as 47 degrees overnight. The arrival of these cooler conditions is a reminder to prepare for the changing seasons, particularly with the threat of frost in rural areas next week.
