Hurricane Helene: Community updates from across the CSRA

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – As the CSRA recovers from the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene, many local offices and services have suspended services.

Updates

All Columbia County youth sports and county programs are suspended until further notice.

  • The Augusta Municipal Building will be closed to the public for the remainder of the week. These Columbia County parks are closed indefinitely: Reed Creek Nature Park and Interpretive Center, Memorial Park, Savannah Rapids Park, Wildwood Park and Columbia County Racquet Center.
  • Health departments in Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Emanuel, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Screven, Taliaferro, Warren and Wilkes counties are closed through October 4th.
  • The city of Aiken will open for business on Wednesday and then close again until Friday.
  • Aiken County’s public transit system, Best Friend Express, suspended service Thursday at 5 p.m. Regular transit resumed Monday.
  • The Department of Veterans Affairs’ Uptown campus is offering reduced services, primarily for urgent needs. The downtown campus and emergency department at 950 15th St. remain open and operational.
  • Courthouses in Richmond and Burke counties are closed until October 4th. The jurors who were summoned for deliberations in the weeks of October 7th and 14th are now not allowed to appear. It is not necessary to call the jury information line for instructions. You are exempt from your summons.
  • The Richmond County Landfill is open from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will accept up to five bags of household waste free of charge.
  • Augusta Transit’s fixed-route and paratransit services, as well as Richmond Transit service, are suspended until further notice.
  • Augusta Partnership for Children will be closed for the remainder of this week.
  • The City of Augusta offices will be closed to the public on September 30th. Essential personnel continue to work throughout Augusta-Richmond County to respond to the impacts of Hurricane Helene.
  • The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Administration Building and the Charles B. Webster Detention Center remain closed to the public until further notice.
  • All non-essential offices in Lincoln County will be closed Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All public safety, emergency services, public works and E911 employees report to their regular assigned shifts.
  • Aiken County’s public transit system, Best Friend Express, suspended service Thursday at 5 p.m. Regular traffic will resume on Monday.
  • The government offices in the Bamberg district will be open again during normal business hours from September 30th.
  • The Burke County Sheriff’s Office said its administrative offices were closed Friday. They said they would return to regular business hours on Monday. Emergency services can still be reached at 911.
  • Columbia County government offices, motor vehicle and property tax departments, county libraries, clerk’s office, probate court, municipal court and district attorney’s office will remain closed until October 7. In addition, the Supreme Court has issued a closure order for its operations.
  • The City of Grovetown closed its offices on Thursday and will reopen for normal business hours on Monday.
  • Lincoln County officials say all non-essential offices will remain closed through October 1st.
  • The Piedmont Augusta hospital system says it needs to conserve resources to prioritize patient care. For this reason, Piedmont Augusta, Summerville and McDuffie are postponing visits until further notice.
  • The Department of Veterans Affairs’ two medical locations in Augusta will offer limited primary care and outpatient services starting Monday. Veterans primary care and outpatient treatment appointments scheduled for Monday at the Augusta locations have been canceled. Walk-in appointments are available on Monday, but emergency care should be referred to the Emergency Department at our downtown Augusta campus, 950 15th St.
  • The City of Waynesboro has canceled bulk pickup for Friday. The sequel will take place on October 4th.
