Ferencvaros vs Tottenham: Europa League – live | Europa League

Important events

30 minutes: Gartenmann hits a low cross from the right into the Spurs penalty area. Vicario claims. Not much of this game is played in the middle of the park.

share

29 mins: Saldanha is annoyed by the attention from Bergvall and is close to elbowing him in the face. Luckily nothing connects and the two are soon friends again. The referee tells both of them to take care of themselves.

share

27 mins: Another Spurs corner, Bergvall swings it in from the left. Here you can see Barnabás Varga letting Saldanha almost free in front of the goal. This game is so open, the ball is passed from one end to the other with wonderful abandon. Good old-fashioned, reckless fun.

25 minutes: A Spurs corner ends with Traoré attacking down the left. Gray dispossesses him and puts Spurs on the counterattack. This ends with Sarr firing a shot from distance into the goalkeeper’s throat. It is impossible for this game to end 0-1.

GOAL! Ferencvaros 0-1 Spurs (Sarr 23)

Well, well, well! It was the hosts all along, but Spurs took the lead despite the way the game was going. Moore comes from the right and tries to find Lankshear in the box. Some pinball. The ball bounces off Bergvall, who has fallen over, and hits Sarr, who touches the right edge of the six-yard box before running over Dibusz and into the goal.

22 mins: Ćivić is cautioned for bringing down Moore in flight. He will miss Ferencváros’ next game in the competition.

20 minutes: Civic deflects the ball from the baseline to the left of the goal and falls back to Barnabas Varga, who shoots a shot from eight meters into the goal. Vicario makes a miracle save, a world-class reaction stop, which technically doesn’t count because the flag then goes up for offside. Ferencváros seem to score every time they go forward.

NO GOAL. Ferencvaros 0-0 Spurs

18 minutes: …but there is a long VAR check for offside. Barnabás Varga takes a look at the linesman. He knows that Adama Traoré was clearly wrong in the middle. But did he disrupt the game and deter Vicario? VAR says yes. No goal. This is a generous decision for Spurs.

GOAL! Ferencváros – Spurs 1-0 (Barnabás Varga 16)

Space for Ćivić on the left. He swings long towards Barnabás Varga, who rushes in from the right. Varga heads down, diagonally over Vicario and into the left side of the net. So simple, but still a wonderful ending.

14 mins: Spurs have found their feet again after this shaky start. Both literally and figuratively; The pitch is wetter than an otter’s pocket.

12 minutes: Some space for Sarr on the edge of Ferencváros D. All his own work thanks to a clever change of shoes. He sends a powerful low shot into the goal, but it hits Dibusz in the Ferencváros goal. Dibusz parries and lines are cleared.

10 minutes: Werner hacks past Traoré on the left and crosses. Lankshear should at least work the goalie and hit the ball six yards in front of the ball, but as he lunges for it, all he can do is put his shoulder over the crossbar. Great opportunity for the young debutant.

9 minutes: The Spurs appear in attack for the first time, Porro hits a flat cross from the right inwards. Neither Lankshear nor Werner can make a connection. The Spurs come through Moore again on the right. His dangerous low fizzer is clearly hooked by Gartenmann.

share

8 minutes: Traoré cuts in from the right and circles the ball down to the left. Easy for Vicario.

share

7 minutes: Gartenmann races down the right inside channel and appears to be turned upside down by Bissouma. He wants a free kick just outside the penalty area, but doesn’t get one. It turned out to be a great decision by the referee. Replays showed the Spurs midfielder gently pushing the ball away.

4 minutes: Abu Fani hits a wonderful diagonal pass towards Traoré on the right. Traoré has the opportunity to shoot into the box but instead opts to beat Barnabas Varga on the Spurs D cross. Varga leans back and shoots a poor first shot over the crossbar. An early warning for Spurs, who already look worryingly open at the back.

3 minutes: Porro’s first act is to lose control in his own space. Then he concedes the first corner of the evening. Abu Fani sends the ball to the near post, where Bissouma clears. A somewhat nervous start from the guests.

2 minutes: By the way, Gray is playing as a central defender tonight. Porro right back.

The hosts get started. A wonderful atmosphere in the Ferencváros Stadium, despite the rain that has been falling for 24 hours and doesn’t seem to want to stop.

The teams are out! Ferencváros wears the green and white stripes, so Spurs naturally opted for their third-choice green jersey rather than their second-choice blue. According to the note accompanying the t-shirt, these green garments “celebrate the pioneering creative women of Tottenham, with the all-over print inspired by the elm trees of the Seven Sisters.” It’s amazing where your mind can take you when you’re standing in front of a blank piece of paper and everyone else in the office is already at the pub.

Ange Postecoglou tells TNT Sports that the children are doing well. “They have been with us since the start of pre-season and are therefore fully-fledged members of our squad… Mikey has had a few opportunities as a substitute… we were keen to get them some playing time and are thinking about it tonight is the ideal time to do that… I’m confident that they will manage to cope with themselves… I’m not afraid to let them out… they’ve earned their place and I’m sure they’ll do well… the best way to get the momentum “The way to maintain it is to use the entire squad… I’ve put together a team tonight that I think can do it.”

Mailbag before the game. “The home team starts with a Civic, while the visitors have an Austin among the substitutes. Car-wise, Ferencvaros will probably get more out of this game than Spurs.” Here’s some top gear from Peter Oh. For non-petrol people, the Civic is a globally popular sedan from Honda, while the Austin…well, that’s best explained by this “montage of racy shots.”

A reminder of what happened this time last week, when things could have gone wrong for Spurs but didn’t. All in all, it was a good week for Dominic Solanke.

Tottenham’s starting XI is as youthful and therefore super exciting as it gets. Ange gives the nod to 18-year-old right-back Archie Gray, 18-year-old playmaker Lucas Bergvall, 17-year-old winger Mikey Moore and 19-year-old striker Will Lankshear making his debut. Audere est Facere, as they say around the N17.

preamble

Last week, Spurs managed to beat Qarabağ with ten players. Can they take out Ferencváros with a full eleven-man team? We’ll find out soon. An emotional journey – not for the Spurs, who have never played against the famous Hungarian club before, but for Ange Postecoglou, who played under the legendary Ferenc Puskás at South Melbourne – begins at 5:45pm BST. It’s on!
