In North Carolina, the husband of a Republican congresswoman was stranded after Hurricane Helene

Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., says her husband is one of thousands of Americans stuck in their homes without power and other essentials after Hurricane Helene.

Foxx said she returned to her North Carolina district for the first time on Friday and was shocked by the devastation. She said the driveway of her home was washed away, leaving her husband unable to leave.

“I have worked day and night to help voters solve the problems they face. It’s really hard to understand the devastation that has taken place here unless you drive around and see it, which I did,” Foxx told Fox News Digital.

“The amount of rain that fell and what it did to rivers, streams and small streams is hard to imagine, but I saw it first hand,” she added.

Due to the lack of electricity and cell service, many locals are unable to communicate to find out where these essential items are. Communication with family members and emergency personnel is also patchy, and residents rely on temporary cell towers erected at select locations. However, there is still no service or roaming data outside of these locations.
