PIF’s Yasir Al-Rumayyan plays with Jay Monahan and Rory McIlroy at the DP World Tour event in St. Andrews

As the PGA Tour continues to negotiate with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, two key players in the talks will face off on the golf course.

Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan take part in the first round of the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which begins on Thursday and takes place at three courses in the Fife region of Scotland, St. Andrews’ Old, The events will be held at Course, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. Monahan’s professional partner for the event is Billy Horschel, while Al-Rumayyan will be working with LIV member Dean Burmester.

In the group behind them for the opening round at Carnoustie will be Rory McIlroy and his father Gerry McIlroy. On Friday, Monahan will play with the McIlroys at Kingsbarns, while Al-Rumayyan’s team will meet another LIV member in Louis Oosthuizen. On Saturday in St. Andrews, McIlroy and Al-Rumayyan will join the Monahan and Oosthuizen teams.

Monahan spent last week at the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal but did not speak to reporters about the status of negotiations. Earlier this month, the two sides met for several days in New York City.

“I would say the priority has increased,” Monahan said Aug. 28 during the Tour Championship. “It’s stronger. That’s a direct result of dialogue and conversation and actually talking about the future, future product visions and the direction we can take our sport. I think having productive conversations increases the likelihood of positive outcomes and strengthens the spirit of those conversations. I think that’s the state of things.”

Also in the field are several other LIV players, including Jon Rahm (who celebrated the birth of his third child last Tuesday), Brooks Koepka, David Puig, Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed, Talor Gooch, Eugenio Chacarra, Branden Grace, Caleb Surratt, Hudson Swafford and Peter Uihlein.
