What Chris Antonetti had to say Wednesday as the Guardians prepared for ALDS Game 1

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti met with reporters Wednesday as the team prepares to open American League Division Series play later this week at Progressive Field.

Antonetti was asked a wide range of questions, from roster decisions to potential opponents to individual performances from rookies like Cade Smith and Joey Cantillo to veterans like José Ramírez and Austin Hedges.

Antonetti also revealed that Tanner Bibee would actually be Cleveland’s starter in Game 1 of the Division Series on Saturday, saying the right-hander was the guy Cleveland turned to most often this year to be a leader going forward to function.

“He has embraced this role and we are excited to hand the ball to him in Game 1,” Antonetti said.

Below are some of Antonetti’s thoughts on other issues facing the Guardians as the playoff opener approaches.
