Atalanta 3-0 Shakhtar (Oct 2, 2024) Match analysis

Raoul Bellanova scored Atalanta’s third goal in the game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Ademola Lookman scored one goal and was instrumental in the other two to help Atalanta to a 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday as the Italians outclassed their Ukrainian opponents in Gelsenkirchen.

Atalanta have four points from two games after they beat Arsenal in a 0-0 draw in their opening game, and Shakhtar remained on one point after they played to a goalless draw against Italian club Bologna in their first game.

The Serie A side took the lead in the 21st minute when Lookman curled a cross into the box that fell to Berat Djimsiti in front of goal and he controlled the ball before pushing it past the goalkeeper.

Atalanta doubled the lead a minute before half-time when Sead Kolasinac placed a pass to Lookman in the center of the penalty area and the Nigeria international fired a first-time shot through the legs of his guard Marlon Gomes and into the bottom corner of the net.

Three minutes into the second half the game was all but over after Lookman played the ball wide to Davide Zappacosta and his cross into the six-yard box was headed home by Raoul Bellanova.

With the score at 3-0, Lookman, who also hit the crossbar in the first half, was substituted over half an hour before the end of the game, his work for the evening was done and the tie ended with the same result as the last time the two teams met Champions League in 2019.
