Man shot dead in altercation at Walmart parking lot in south city, police say

SAN ANTONIO – A man in his 30s was shot and killed during an altercation in the parking lot of a Walmart on the city’s south side early Monday morning, according to San Antonio police.

Shortly before 7 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and Southeast Military Drive, near Stinson-Mission Municipal Airport, after receiving news of an injured person.

According to police, a man in his 70s or 80s was in a car with a woman when he got into an argument with the victim. Then, police say, for an unknown reason, the older man pulled out a gun and fired.

According to police, the man who was killed was shot at least twice, once in the back and once in the arm.

SAPD said they now have the elderly man in custody but have not yet spoken to him. It is unclear if charges will be filed.

Investigators confirmed that the shooter was either living or sleeping in his truck and that the man killed was homeless.

The police did not say what the argument was about. The name of the man who was killed was not released. Investigators have since received surveillance video from Walmart that shows the entire conflict.

Both the San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and the San Antonio Emergency Services responded to the emergency call.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
