Pinellas County deputy seriously injured in tanker truck accident on Pasco County road

A Pinellas County deputy suffered serious injuries while on duty in an early morning accident involving a tanker truck in Pasco County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to investigators, just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Deputy Dakota Dellechiaie’s marked patrol vehicle crashed into an AmeriGas propane tanker truck that was backing into a driveway on Hudson Avenue in Shady Hills.

Troopers said the deputy’s Chevy Tahoe ended up under the trailer of the tanker truck, which was in both lanes of the road at the time of the crash.

The rescue workers managed to rescue 32-year-old Dellechiaie from the vehicle and take him to hospital.

PCSO said the deputy suffered “very serious head injuries” and is stable in the hospital.

The driver of the tanker truck remained uninjured.

Dellechiaie, 32, has been with the sheriff’s office since 2019 and was on his way to his assigned shift when the accident occurred, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Motorists are asked to continue to avoid Hudson Avenue while crews burn off propane.
