October 1st is an incredibly historic day! It is not only the birthday of the longest-living US president, but above all the 100th birthday of President Jimmy Carter, the very first centenarian president.

A few weeks ago, it was a great honor for me to attend Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday celebration at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. The event was recorded for broadcast on PBS and featured dozens of incredible musical performances as well as video tributes from Jon Stewart, Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan and every living U.S. president…except Donald J. Trump.

Last year, shortly after the death of Jimmy Carter’s wife of 77 years, Rosalynn, Donald Trump threw shade at Carter by proclaiming, “Joe Biden is the worst president in the history of our country, far worse than Jimmy Carter.” Trump continued: “Jimmy Carter is happy now because compared to Biden he had a brilliant presidency.”

Trump fails to recognize the truth that by every metric, poll, or survey of historians or educators, Jimmy Carter consistently ranks somewhere in the middle of the rankings of the best to worst U.S. presidents. Trump has never rated above the bottom five.

Who was the better president? Trump or Carter

Was it the humble man who ran Sunday school all his life, or the man who wanted to profit from selling $60 Bibles and spent his Sundays on the golf course?

Was it the decorated WWII naval officer or the man who faked bone spurs to avoid the draft and who bragged to Howard Stern about his personal Vietnam trying to avoid contracting venereal diseases?

Was it the honest, simple man who married his childhood sweetheart and remained faithful to her for 77 years, or the man who publicly cheated on each of his three wives and was convicted of sexual assault?

Jimmy Carter raised millions upon millions of dollars to eradicate disease in Africa, build homes for Habitat for Humanity, and oversee free and fair elections around the world.

Opinion: My preacher father saw Jimmy Carter as a man of faith. Let’s remember him like this

Donald Trump has used millions upon millions of dollars donated to his political campaign to pay his own bills and sought to profit personally by selling sneakers, stocks, watches, Bibles and digital trading cards.

Donald: You’re no Jimmy Carter!

Happy birthday, President Carter…the best and only 100 years old president!
