Who will play in Game 2 of the playoffs?

The Detroit Tigers pulled off an upset over the Houston Astros in the first game of their American League Wild Card Series on Tuesday, behind AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal getting off to a dominant start.

But who the hell will line up in a potentially series-deciding Game 2 at Minute Maid Park (2:32 p.m., ABC) on Wednesday?

Manager AJ Hinch and the Tigers have had an opener-big man pitching strategy since August as the starting rotation was decimated by injuries, poor performance and the trade of Jack Flaherty at the deadline (in exchange for current playoff starting shortstop Trey Sweeney). .

Rookie right-hander Reese Olson could be the favorite to start for the Tigers as they try to secure a trip to Cleveland and the best-of-five ALDS that begins Saturday. Olson, 25, is 4-8 with a 3.53 ERA but has missed nearly two months with a shoulder strain. He returned on September 16 and has made three starts, pitching no more than four innings in each.

What a beginning: Tarik Skubal, MLB’s youngest team, handles Astros and playoff pressure in Game 1 win

If Olson doesn’t start, he would certainly be one of Hinch’s best backup players to replace whoever opens the game (possibly do-it-all Tyler Holton).

The Astros have not yet named their starter for Game 2, but they are likely to be Detroit native, right-hander Hunter Brown (St. Clair Lakeview High School and Wayne State) and left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. Both potential starters have plenty of rest: Brown (11-9, 3.49 ERA) last pitched on Sept. 23; Kikuchi (9-10, 4.05 ERA) hasn’t pitched in a week.
