Man City are ready to erase further Man United history by achieving the UCL record

Man City equaled Man United’s record for the longest unbeaten streak in Champions League history.

United have held the record for 16 years, set when the Red Devils went 25 games unbeaten between September 2007 and May 2009. There were 20 wins and five draws, including the 2008 final, which Sir Alex Ferguson’s team won on penalties against Chelsea.

The Red Devils were not at their best in the group stage of the 2008/09 season, but remained unbeaten throughout. After eliminating Inter, Porto and Arsenal in the knockout rounds, Man United’s 25-match unbeaten run ended with a 2-0 defeat to Barcelona in the 2009 final.

With Man City beating Slovan Bratislava 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, Pep Guardiola’s side are now unbeaten in their last 25 European games (W17 D8) and have not lost a single game since May 2022.

According to TNT Sports, this equals Man United’s record for the longest ever unbeaten streak in Champions League history, as the Red Devils’ rivals look close to undoing another of their neighbours’ achievements.

City host Sparta Praha in their next Champions League game at the Etihad Stadium. With a win, the Manchester club will become the sole defending champions of the longest unbeaten streak ever in the history of the competition.

Man City are unbeaten in 25 Champions League games

Man City won the 2023 Champions League and remained unbeaten until the final before defeating Inter Milan to secure their first European title. This continued in the 2023/24 season when Pep Guardiola’s team was eliminated by Real Madrid, albeit on penalties.

With two wins in the current version of the Champions League, Man City is now on the brink of history. A win over Sparta Praha will see Guardiola’s men become one of the best European teams of all time and at the moment it is hard to see where their run will end.
