Brewers’ chances to win World Series, National League, series against Mets

The Milwaukee Brewers are the third-seeded team in the National League playoffs, but are ranked as the No. 4 team based on their chances of winning the World Series.

According to BetMGM, the Brewers are +2000 to win it all as of Tuesday afternoon heading into Game 1 of their wild card playoff series against the New York Mets. This means that if you bet $100 on them and they win, you will receive $2,000.

The NL West champions and the top-seeded Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites at +325. The other NL teams ahead of the Brewers are the second-seeded NL East champion Philadelphia Phillies at +450 and the fourth-seeded San Diego Padres at +850. The Padres, who have secured one of three wild card spots, play in the other NL wild card series against the Atlanta Braves starting Tuesday.

As the top seeds, the Dogers and Phillies have byes for the divisional round.

In fact, the Brewers’ chances are the same as their wild card opponent, the Mets.

Brewers vs. Mets likely pitchers

The odds for a game often reflect those of a starting player. The Brewers will start Game 1 with Freddy Peralta, while the Mets will go with Luis Severino.

Peralta, in his seventh season with the Brewers and fourth as the primary starter, is 11-9 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 32 starts. He posted 200 strikeouts in 173.2 innings. He must avoid giving up the long ball against some of the game’s best home run hitters. He allowed 26 home runs for the second straight season, including at least one in 21 games. He last pitched on September 25 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing two runs in 5.1 innings in the Brewers’ 2-1 loss.

Peralta was involved in the Brewers’ 5-2 wild-card final loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks last year.

Severino is 11-7 this season with a 3.91 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 31 starts and 182.0 innings. He recorded 161 strikeouts.

The Brewers defeated Severino in the second game of the season on March 30 as part of Milwaukee’s season-opening win over the Mets with 11 hits in five innings and six runs, three of which were earned. The Brewers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Severino and then led 5-1 after Rhys Hoskins’ two-run home run in the third inning. The Brewers were able to record a 7-6 win.
