MLB legend Pete Rose’s cause of death has been revealed

Nevada officials were investigating the cause of death of MLB legend Pete Rose on Tuesday.

“The cause of death was determined to be hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease with significant diabetes mellitus,” the Clark County Coroner’s Office said. “The manner of death was natural.”

Rose, 83, died Monday evening.

Rose made his breakthrough in 1963 with his hometown Cincinnati Reds, the team for which he played 19 of his 24 seasons, three of which he also served as assistant manager. He then made league history and secured three World Series titles along the way.

Nicknamed “Charlie Hustle” for his tireless efforts on the diamond, Rose was the 1973 league MVP, 17-time All-Star, three-time batting champion, rookie of the year and World Series MVP.

He also played for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Montreal Expos.

When he was manager of the Reds, Rose agreed to be placed on baseball’s ineligible list because he was accused of betting on baseball. Rose applied for reinstatement, but it was never accepted. Baseball voters agreed in 1991 to keep those on the ineligible list off the potential list of Hall of Fame inductees.

He did not admit to gambling until he published an autobiography in 2004.

Still, baseball remembered Rose fondly.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of Pete’s passing,” Reds team owner Bob Castellini said in a statement. “He was one of the fiercest competitors the game has ever seen, and every team he played for was better because of him. Pete was a Red through and through. Nobody loved the game more than Pete and nobody loved Pete more than the Reds.” Country.
