Major Sony PlayStation Network outage affects gamers around the world

Sony’s PlayStation Network faced a significant outage on Tuesday that left players unable to access their accounts, impacting gamers worldwide.

The outage began late Monday and lasted until Tuesday morning. According to PlayStation Network’s website, the company acknowledged that “some services are experiencing issues” and that players “may have difficulty” logging in, creating accounts, launching games or accessing video content.

Although Sony was quick to reassure users that they were working to resolve the issue, there was no immediate explanation.

“We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” the company said.

Widespread frustration among gamers was reflected on social media and on Downdetector, an outage tracker, where thousands of outage reports were filed within hours of the issue emerging.

Sony updated its status page in the US on Tuesday morning, announcing that “all services are operational.” The company has not yet provided further details about what caused the outage or how to prevent such problems in the future.

The Verge, a technology news website, reported on Tuesday that the Sony PlayStation outage “lasted around eight hours” but now “appears to be largely resolved,” although some users are still taking to social media to report ongoing problems write.

Sony’s outage comes a day after service provider Verizon made national headlines after it also suffered a major outage and users across the United States reported service issues on Monday.

In response, Verizon said Monday that engineers had begun fixing the problem.

“Verizon engineers are making progress on our network issue and service restoration has begun. “We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience some of our customers may have experienced today,” the company said Monday on X, formerly Twitter Evening.

“We continue to work around the clock to fully resolve this issue.”

Downdetector reported that Verizon users announced early Monday morning that they were experiencing problems, including their phones being “stuck in SOS mode.”

In an initial response shortly before noon Monday, Verizon said its engineers were working on the problem. The federal regulator, the Federal Communications Commission, has also launched an investigation into the outage.

“We are aware of a Verizon outage impacting customers in parts of the country. We are working to determine the cause and extent of these service interruptions,” the FCC wrote on X on Monday.
