Tropical Depression Twelve is strengthening and could soon reach tropical storm strength. Forecasters expect Hurricane Kirk to strengthen into a large and powerful hurricane later this week, moving north through the open Atlantic.

The low pressure area is currently moving westward and a strong high pressure area to the north is expected to continue steering the system mostly westward over the next few days. After that, a change in steering flow may cause the storm to move further north.

Forecasts are somewhat consistent for the first two to three days, but they could fluctuate more later depending on how quickly the system changes direction, according to the FOX Forecast Center.
