MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Summer lovers should enjoy as much of today’s weather as possible because this will be our last day in the 80s for a while! It’s possible that this could be the last 80s of the season, although long-range forecasts point to more above-average temperatures for much of October (but keep in mind our average highs will fall into the 60s this month).

The average temperature in Madison is 80° on September 29th, but we have seen it before through October.

What’s next…

Today will be mostly sunny, apart from a few clouds in the afternoon, with warmer temperatures. Today’s highs will be in the low 80s across much of southern Wisconsin. There will also be weak winds from the south.

A cold front will move through the region tonight, followed by strong northwesterly winds. These winds will pull in cooler air and keep temperatures in the upper 60s tomorrow! This will be the coolest day of the week. Skies will still be sunny, but winds will be strong, with gusts around 30 mph.

Tuesday night will be chilly: temperatures will drop below 40 degrees by early Wednesday morning! This may be the first time you have to reach for that warmer jacket as you head out the door!

Looking ahead…

Temperatures will rise above average again for the remainder of the week as heat continues to build across the Central Plains. Highs will remain in the 70s for the remainder of the workweek and into the following weekend.

It will be sunny most days, but we will look for a few showers Thursday evening as another small cold front moves through.
