Travis Kelce responds; Sadness of the Jets and Giants

Week 4 proved to be another ugly week for New York football – even the Bills couldn’t save the Empire State – and the wave of injuries spread across the NFL once again.

While there may be two more games left in Week 4 and two Monday Night Football games on the schedule, here’s a look at some of the winners and losers after another weekend of football.

Week 4 winners

Travis Kelce

The Chiefs’ star tight end has come under intense scrutiny in the first few weeks of the season, and his offseason struggles have led to discussion about whether it has distracted him from football.

He responded with a big game on Sunday, a 17-10 win over the Chargers in which he had seven receptions for 89 yards and also recorded his 917th NFL reception as a member of the Chiefs, tying Tony Gonzalez’s previous tight end overtook record of 916.

While the game was certainly positive after all the talk about him, Kelce is still waiting for his first touchdown of the season. (And Swifites are still waiting for another Taylor Swift game appearance).

Minnesota Vikings

It’s hard to say that many people would have considered the Vikings to be one of the two teams undefeated after four weeks, but here we are. Former Jets quarterback Sam Darnold came into the game and bravely led the Vikings’ offense – he did throw one interception – but completed the win over the Packers by completing 20 of 28 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns.

The Vikings fought back but couldn’t prevail, still finding a way to pull out a 31-29 win after giving up an early 28-0 lead and needing a late field goal to secure the victory.

Minny has defeated the 49ers, Texans and Packers in the last three weeks, which is an impressive feat for a team that went through some changes in the offseason.

Caleb Williams

After a solid performance from Williams in Chicago’s 24-18 win over the Rams, Bears fans are starting to see their rookie quarterback come together again.

Williams threw a touchdown and completed 17 of 23 passes for 157 yards without the offense turning the ball over.

The first overall pick in April’s draft had a passer rating of 106.6 this week and has seen steady improvement in recent weeks.

Losers from week 4

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars spoke of an important game heading into this season, with owner Shad Khan saying that “winning now is the expectation” and that “this is the best team the Jacksonville Jaguars have ever assembled.”

The comments seem far-fetched now after the Jags lost another game to move to 0-4 on the season.

The Titans could join them in the 0-4 bracket if they lose to the Dolphins on Monday night, but expectations have been high for the Jaguars this season and now head coach Doug Pederson is in the hot seat.

Anyone hoping for a touchdown at MetLife Stadium

Both the Jets and Giants played at home this week and yet none of the fans actually got to see a touchdown from the home team.

Both the Giants and Jets ended up losing while relying solely on their kickers to score the points. Both games ended close, but neither the Jets nor the Giants were able to come up big when they needed to.

The Giants’ final attempt against the Cowboys ended with Daniel Jones throwing a pick and Greg Zuerlein missing a 50-yard kick that would have won the game for the Jets over the Broncos.

Falcons fans

It should be noted that these are not all Falcons fans, just the ones who decided to start brawling in the 300 section of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. An ugly video emerged of a vicious incident in which a fan was seen kicking and stepping on another’s head in a chaotic scene. One that is becoming increasingly common in NFL stadiums.
