Oasis live: Noel and Liam Gallagher confirm the North American leg of their big reunion tour

Oasis formed in Manchester in 1991 and went on to become one of the era’s best-selling bands, a phenomenon even among their Britpop peers such as Blur, Pulp and Suede. All seven of their studio albums topped the charts, and this success was reflected in ticket sales – especially when 125,000 fans attended each of their two Knebworth shows in 1996. They headlined Glastonbury twice, first in 1995 and again in 2004. They won six Brit Awards and two Ivor Novellos.

Oasis were undoubtedly one of the defining bands of the ’90s, as notorious for their headline-grabbing escapades – from public brawls to arrests – as they were loved for their stadium-filling anthems. At first glance, they had it all: Liam was the proud, hotheaded frontman, Noel was the stoic songwriter and guitarist.

But the strained relationship between Liam and Noel was ultimately the band’s downfall. The band’s career was marked by arguments and physical altercations – Noel famously attacked his younger brother with a cricket bat after he brought a bar full of new friends into the studio while they were recording their second album.

Both brothers left the shows more than once. Noel later claimed that he discovered that if he didn’t want to exploit his fear of ghosts, dealing with Liam’s head was better than physical fights such as moving furniture. They have often blasted each other in interviews – speaking to Q magazine in 2009, Noel described Liam as “the angriest man you’ll ever meet… he’s like a man with a fork in a world full of soup.”

Then came the Rock-en-Seine festival in Paris, the scene of the final altercation in which – according to Noel – Liam swung his brother’s guitar “like an axe” and “nearly tore my face off with it”. Noel left the band, saying he couldn’t work with Liam for “one more day.”

As they launched their respective solo careers – Liam as a singer-songwriter and Noel with his band High Flying Birds – they began insulting each other on Twitter. Most of this came from Liam, whose least offensive insults included comparing Noel to a potato and mocking him after he was accompanied by a woman playing scissors in an episode of Later… With Jools Holland.

For his part, Noel insisted Liam had gone too far on more than one occasion. Without a proper apology, he told reporters, they would never get along well. That might explain why Liam, who has often spoken about his desire to see each other again, has significantly toned down the insults in recent years. Just weeks before the reunion was announced, Noel returned the praise and praised his brother’s stage presence. “I don’t have the same attitude as him,” he said. “Liam’s (voice) is 10 shots of tequila on a Friday night,” he joked. “Mine is half a Guinness.”

Oasis have yet to find out which acts they will be supporting on their big reunion tour in 2025, but frontman Liam Gallagher is apparently keen to give fans the best show possible.

While several reports have claimed that various bands are already lined up to open for the British rock band at their shows in London, Cardiff, Dublin, Edinburgh and Manchester, The Independent understands that brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher still need to sit down and discuss which artists they want.

However, Liam is said to be keen to get some big rock acts on board.

“Liam is interested in established acts, so it will probably take a bit of back and forth before anything is confirmed,” said a source close to the band The Independent.

Hell has frozen over as the infamous Gallagher brothers put their differences aside and announce their reunion tour for next year. To mark the occasion, Mark Beaumont revisits the album that started it all…

“I just recorded Don’t bother with the Buzzcocks “I’m in the UK wearing my Oasis t-shirt – and that was before the reunion was announced, so my love for Oasis isn’t trending,” she replied.

“It started when I was 17, with the first two albums. I feel like Noel Gallagher taught me to play guitar without him knowing because I would play along. My song ‘Turn Off the Light’ has the same chords as ‘Wonderwall’.”

The English singer, who fronted The Housemartins and The Beautiful South, is embarking on a solo arena tour in November and has capped tickets for the shows at £35, a move which has received widespread praise from fans.

In August, amid the furor over ticket prices for Oasis’ reunion shows and Ticketmaster’s “dynamic pricing model,” Heaton’s name began trending as fans negatively compared the rock band to Heaton.

Heaton himself has now indicated that the prizes can be expected from the “Champagne Supernova” stars.
