Barbra Streisand mourns her ‘A Star Is Born’ co-star Kris Kristofferson: ‘He was special’

Barbra Streisand has shared a touching tribute to her A Star Is Born co-star Kris Kristofferson following his death at the age of 88.

Streisand, 82, rushed to social media on Sunday to share a picture of the couple’s 1976 album cover from the Oscar-winning film, as well as a more recent photo of the duo together on stage.

“When I first saw Kris perform at the Troubadour Club in LA, I knew he was special,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Barefoot and strumming his guitar, he seemed the perfect choice for a script I developed that eventually became ‘A Star Is Born.’

“In the film, Kris and I sang the song ‘Evergreen,’ which I wrote for the main theme of the film,” she continued.

“For my final concert of 2019 in London’s Hyde Park, I asked Kris to come on stage with me to sing our other A Star Is Born duet, ‘Lost Inside Of You.'” He was as charming as ever and the audience showered him with applause. It was a joy to see him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved.”

Streisand expressed her condolences to the late artist’s family, writing, “My thoughts are with Kris’ wife Lisa, who I know has supported him in every way possible.”

Kristofferson played troubled rocker John Norman Howard alongside Streisand in the 1976 remake.

This role made him a Golden Globe winner in 1977, and the film won three more Golden Globes that year.

Additionally, the version of the film that was remade four times included the track “Love Theme From A Star is Born,” written by Streisand.

The song won Streisand a Grammy Award in 1978 and an Oscar for Best Original Song.

The film was last remade in 2018 and starred Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

In addition to Kristofferson’s work on the film, he was also known for his 1972 hit song “Why Me” and “Me & Bobby McGee,” a hit recorded by Janis Joplin shortly before her death in 1970.

He also played vampire hunter Abraham Whistler in the 1998 horror film Blade and the love interest of character Ellen Burstyn in the 1974 Martin Scorsese drama Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

The beloved artist died on Saturday and was surrounded by his family, but a cause of death was not given.

His death came three years after he announced his retirement in a statement from his management, revealing that he had slowly retreated from the spotlight.
