What is Uzumaki about?

“Uzumaki” is based on the Japanese horror manga series of the same name, written and illustrated by Junji Ito and published in Shogakukan’s weekly manga magazine “Big Comic Spirits” from 1998 to 1999. An official synopsis from Warner Bros. reads: “Let’s leave it at that.” “We want to bring the city together,” asks Shuichi Saito, a former classmate of Kirie Goshima, a high school girl born and raised in Kurouzu-cho. Everything from a strange whirlwind to the rising smoke of the crematorium to the residents turning into spirals. People’s eyes spin in a whirlwind, tongues twist, and bodies twist in unnatural ways. To escape the Curse of the Spirals, Kirie decides to flee from Kurouzu-cho, but can she escape this turmoil?”
