Despite moving to the broadcast booth, Tom Brady remains just as competitive.

The Hall of Fame quarterback couldn’t help but respond to recent comments from Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield – Brady’s successor in Tampa Bay’s offense.

Mayfield appeared to blame Brady for the tense atmosphere in the Buccaneers’ locker room when he arrived in 2023 during an interview with the “Casa De Klub” podcast.

“The building was a little different with Tom in it. Obviously Tom is different in terms of play. He was talking to everyone, the atmosphere was tense, so I think everyone was pretty stressed,” Mayfield claimed. “They wanted me to come in, be myself and bring the joy of football back to the boys who weren’t having as much fun.”

When Brady heard Mayfield’s words, he had a fitting response.

“I found it stressful not having Super Bowl rings,” Brady said. “There was a champion attitude that I went to work with every day. This wasn’t day care. If I wanted to have fun, I would take my kids to Disneyland.”

Brady played for the Buccaneers for three seasons from 2020 to 2022. During that time, he led Tampa to its second Super Bowl over the Chiefs. He then led the team to a 13-4 regular season record in his second year, but fell to 8-9 in his final year before his (second) retirement.

During his time with the Buccaneers, Brady averaged 4,881 passing yards and 36 touchdowns – a total higher than any single season of Mayfield’s career.
