Colts QB Anthony Richardson left the game with a hip injury

INDIANAPOLIS – Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is out with a hip injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The second-year quarterback, returning from a season-ending shoulder injury that limited him to four games last season, took a hit to his right hip area after a 14-yard run and immediately grabbed his side. He lay on the grass for a moment before getting up and walking unassisted to the sideline.

After shaking off the injury for a few minutes, Richardson returned to action after missing two plays with veteran Joe Flacco filling in for him. But on Richardson’s first play on the field, he carried the ball 1 yard before taking a hard hit from Steelers linebacker Minkah Fitzpatrick with 3:58 left in the second quarter.

Richardson then left the game again and returned to the locker room with the team’s medical staff. He showed up at the start of the second quarter, running out of the tunnel with his helmet strapped on and looking ready to get back into action.

However, he never came back into the game and was officially ruled out a few minutes later.

Richardson’s health was an important factor in his young career. The 2023 No. 4 pick suffered a concussion last season that kept him out of a Week 3 game before suffering a season-ending AC joint sprain in his right (throwing) shoulder.

Richardson started the first three games of 2024 without incident.
